Watching the color episode where Allan is again, a bully. This time picking on poor Howard as he tries to court Millie. I got to wondering if Allan ever got tired of playing the same role on TAGS. Seems like on other shows he was a "good" guy. Just an observation and thought.

In one episode he was a house detective (Andy and Barney in the Big City). In another episode he was an army recruiting officer (Ernest T Bass Joins the Army). But otherwise, he was the wise-guy bad-guy.

Somebody posed a trivia question to me the other day:

Allan Melvin appeared in 8 different episodes of TAGS as 8 different characters.  Can you name each episode without cheating (ie google, or the discs)  I only got 6, but when I heard the other two I couldn't believe I forgot them.

Fred Plummer the store clerk/street dirtier guy

I will give it a shot, no cheating:

1. Plays the escape prisoner with dog hair on his suit. 2. Fred Plummer the angry street sweeper. 3. Is the escapee when Andy goes on vacation. 4. Is the house detective in the big city. 5. Is the Army recruiter. 6. Is Clyde Plaunt the sewer installer and bully. 7. Is part of the auto-hustling gang of Merts  8. ???

I am only getting 7. Darn!

I just checked IMDb and see I missed the vegetable peddler episode! At any rate - 6 bad guy roles and 2 not so bad.

He was also vegetable vendor.

In the color episodes, wasn't he trying to move in on Millie?
