We all agree, the show is still funny after 53 years but we all have different ideas about what is funny. Might be fun if we go through the cast and name each character's funniest line.  If you want to join in, pick a character, tell what line you think is their funniest line and everyone else can reply with their own.

I'll start with Rafe Hollister

When Rafe comes into the courthouse in his Sunday best overalls ready to go to the Ladie's Musicale rehearsal and Andy is looking him over Rafe says:

"I woulda greased my shoes but everytime I do that the cats all foller me"

Sweet, oblivious Floyd:

At the end of the one with the lady convicts, after Andy and Barney have managed to catch them all with much elaborate effort -- Floyd comes out of the cabin, spatula in hand, to announce,

[I]"These hamburgers are burning!  I won't be responsible."[/I]

If I had a million dollars for every time that line DIDN'T make me laugh..., well I'm already there - still broke.

I guess you've heard the joke about the guy who put the cleaning fluid right in the gravy, that way if he spilled some on his shirt it took care of itself.

Mixing those chemicals with food would be mighty dangerous!

All right you guys, okay you guys, let's go you guys.

"Opie's Charity" is my favorite episode mostly because the whole half-a-boy exchange is (still) the funniest scene in the history of television.  But I gotta say, the 'lergic conversation gives it a good run for its money.  This scene was evidently cut a lot, because I'm not as familiar with it, but that was clever writing.  And Ronny delivered it so perfectly.

I agree, that exchange was one of Opie's brightest moments.

When he said he gave his friend Jimmy a sock in the head and Andy says "I mean for the joy of giving"

Opies says.. "I enjoyed it!"  Comedy like this you don't find anywhere but in Mayberry.
