iMayberry Community

Have we already discussed this?  If so--'scuse me!  If not, let's think about the different jobs the folks in Mayberry hold down.  Sometimes it seems like some of the citizens have, "no visible means of support".  If they don't have a job, how do they get by?

I'll start with a really obvious one:  Mr. Foley runs the grocery store.  Sometimes I wonder how he makes a living, even in 1960's dollars, with the prices he displays on his store's front windows.

My favorite businessman would be Fred Goss. His motto: "Always pays to look your best" goes a long way.

What about Myra Kuntz at the lingerie shop.  If a town of 2500 can't produce one good tenor, do you really think there would be a big enough market for lingerie to maintain a specialty store.

I can't imagine them having a Victoria's Secret section.

Maybe that is where Aunt Bee gets the long garters she uses with the socks she purchased from Bert!

Otis was a "gluer at the furniture factory" correct?

Orville made ends meet at the funeral home by also repairing television sets. Which means there was two TV repair shops in Mayberry.  Orville and George.

When Barney first decided to leave the sheriff's office, he thought he could be a brine tester at the pickle factory.

Otis's bootlegger earns his living by--well, you know.  Shhhh it's a secret....

Shhhhhhh  Us Town Drunks have a code we live by.

Jeff Pruitt was almost shoe-clerk, but he flat refused.

Ellie was a Pharmacy gal.

Freeberger was a sewer inspector; he arrested Barney's father for speeding.

Morelli's ran a restaurant that served a lot of pounded steak.

Mrs. Lumens ran a ladies dress shop.
