J. Edgar Hoover did exist he was mentioned in a few TAGS episodes including Andy saves Barney's Morale and Crime free Mayberry and probably more. He died in 1972 which would be 4 years after TAGS ended. I believe Hoover was only mentioned in the Black and White Episodes to be more specific the first 2 or 3 seasons maybe. But look him up. I always wondered like in Andy saves Barney's Morale what Floyd meant by "We could have a trade Barney here, for J. Edgar Hoover." I always wondered who he was and if he existed and I finally had the guts to look it up.

By the way, John; I'll make a deal with you. You can be my age and I'll be a teenager again. No good? Okay, how about we split the difference? We can both be 31 or something. I'd take 31 with zits and braces to have 16 more years! Oh well, and just don't waste it, John. You don't sound as if you are. What a blessing it is to have active youth here in Mayberry! I'm actually honored.

So very true Big Jeff...Great to see younger people still enjoy TAGS...I really can not believe you haven't heard of J Edgar Hoover...HUGE movie made about him in the last couple of years...Tom Cruise or someone like him...Head of the FBI from the inception till he died in the mid 70's...

J. EDGAR (2011) starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Judi Dench, Naomi Watts and Armie Hammer.  Directed and Produced by Clint Eastwood.

Thanks...I remembered that DiCaprio was in it today...Glad you you posted...

I think Barney did learn some of his crime-busting methods from reading about Mr. Hoover.  You know, like wearing a dress--as a disguise when he was casing the bank.
