Last night I was watching the episode where Gomer has to move in with the Taylors.  He got off on the wrong foot with Wally by telling and retelling his story about "Birdie Blush" and that big ole rainbow trout.

I'm assuming that Birdie is some kin to the incomparable Leonard Blush--he of the mask who sings "Who Is Sylvia" like no other.

Let's list all the different folks (some may be obscure) who are related in Mayberry.  Let's don't include the married folks or Andy to Opie and Aunt Bee.  We can include their relationship to others, though.

I'll start off with:

Andy and Barney.  Barney in the first episode called Andy, Cousin Andy.

Gomer and his stupid cousin Goober (as stated by Barney during the Cave Rescue).

Charlie Foley and Otis are distant cousins (I believe).  Floyd mentions that in "The Case of the Punch in the Nose."

Aunt Bee and her sister, Nora.  "Handsome is as handsome does.  Handsome as a boy, handsome as a man."  Speaking of Ange, of course.

Otis and his brother...what was his name?  Those boys sure fell out of the same tree, didn't they?

Otis' brother's name is Ralph the sister-in-law is Verlaine.

Deputy Otis is the episode.

"The Case of the Punch in the Nose" came up tonight in my rotation.  In addition to Foley and Otis:

  • Floyd and Lamar Tuttle are cousins.  Lamar punched Otis in the nose.
  • Charlie Foley is Johnny Paul's uncle.  Opie punched Johnny Paul in the nose for calling Floyd a crook.
  • Goober punched Gilley in the nose, but I think that's just been brewing since "Goober Takes a Car Apart."

You operate like a Trained Noticer, Steve.

We need to remember Thelma Lou and her cousins too.  Can't remember their names.  Gomer danced with one and Andy shot skeet with another.  Maybe somebody will supply their names.

They're memorialized by my handle on here:  THELSCUZ!

That would be Mary Grace...she's nice, real nice & Karen.

Karen Moore was the sharpshooter cousin and, of course, Gomer's date was Mary Grace Gossage.

(Just adding last names for the record...Sandra got 'em both right.)

My memory isn't keeping up with the noticing any more.  I had to go back and check the names and arguments a second time on the "Punch in the Nose" DVD!

I forgot about Thelma Lou's other cousin, Karen.  Andy sure blew it with Karen compared to Gomer with Mary Grace (at least once Gomer came back with the cor-sage).

By the way - good idea not including the marriages!  I about drove myself nuts (even with the help of the internet) following the trail of Miss Rosemary-Verlaine marrying and leaving Ralph Campbell, then wanting to buy Andy's house with Mr. (Naylor, I guess) Sims, who must have divorced Maudie for throwing a chicken at him.  Not to mention, how did Maudie end up with Naylor after being married to Nate Bracey at the reunion.  Maybe it's because I think she was also the one with the terrible meatballs in "The Rumor."  She must have even changed her name from Lillian to Maudie to get away from the meatball reputation....I get goofy when I'm up this late.

Nice Dress Nellie

I'm not sure this is anything new, but I think I just saw Nice Dress Nellie near the end of the 1969 Bewitched episode "Samantha Twitches for UNICEF."  Here are a couple of pictures, where I think she may be way in back on the left (looking kind of…See More
