I know the Mayberry movie theater was an important part of Mayberry social life. We often hear characters discuss movies they've seen or plan to see. In Barney's case, he's prone to imitate the lead in the "cops and robbers" or detective movies he sees.
But did we ever get a glimpse INSIDE the theater? I don't recall it if we did.
How about chiming in with odd bits of info about the theater and the comments the characters make about the shows there. Lots of important stuff went on there. Remember the night Barney saw Thel and Gomer coming out after taking in a flic?
Also, what was the name? Was it Roxy?

Gomer and Goober saw a Cary Grant movie there.
Martha Clark and Mrs. Pendelton were leaving the Grand after seeing a Greer Garson picture when they saw Emmett and Flora.

Permalink Reply by albert wbmutbb on March 21, 2012 at 8:24pm I'll never go to another Saturday afternoon matinee at the Grand again.... twice I was caught in the crossfire of a bunch of brats pelting each other with jujubees.
Barney interrupted Andy and Helen's "Day Out" at Myers Lake by bringing Opie to ask Andy if it was all right for him to see the double-feature at the Grand. Barn was concerned that the movies were too scary. Andy said it was O-K.
Nope, don't think the camera ever got past the front entrance, but I live some of the references, like from the one movie referred to as "The Monster from Out of Town"
It seems like they have a lot of "monster movies" at The Grand, doesn't it? Seems like mention is made of "that monster movie" several times.
But we know that they have cowboy movies on Saturday because Andy and Opie discussed that when Opie was planning to spend his Saturday with Thelma Lou. Andy enlightened Opie to the fact that women don't much like cowboy movies but like shopping better. Opie opted to take his little girlfriend to the cowboy movie instead.
"Pa, what do you do with a grown woman?"
Well, you don't take her to cowboy movie, that's for sure!
Didn't Opie win a trumpet at the movie theatre in the epilouge of "The Mayberry Band."
I don't think I've ever seen that epilogue around here, Bobby. Wish we could. Mostly we get commercials in place of the epilogues.
Great to see you again! I came here from Miss Crump's too. Good to see some of the old gang.
Hope you visit often.
Howdy Thelscuz,
Good to see you here as well! I found the Mayberry Band on YouTube. It's broken up into three parts, so here's the third which has the epilouge.
