Just got through watching S1 E29 again, Quiet Sam. Just noticed a few things...The Funeral Parlor that was next to the Beauty Shop next to Floyds was Farley's Market..First time I noticed it had changed from Funeral parlor to Grocery Store..Also, when Barney was trying to convince Andy that Sam becker was up to no good, he mentioned that he had cased Ellie's records at The Drug Store and he had been buying a lot of xxx...That might be the last time Ellies name was ever used in TAGS...After Andy helped delivery the baby, he told Barney "lets go outside on the porch, I sure could use a smoke" LOL And last, when the townspeople gathered to sing outside Sam's, Ellies absence was strange...maybe she had the early shift at the store..LOL

The old Funeral Parlor, during these episodes those shops beside the courthouse did not seem to draw a lot of attention utill Floyd became more popular. By the way, do you remember the first barber before McNair?
I remember the time I met Betty Lynn and she was signing a photo for me, we were looking in a book at a picture of Andy that she remembered where he was leaning sort of propped on a table and looking at his hand you could tell it was positioned as if he was holding a cigarette. She said "they airbrushed the cigarette out of the photo, you know back then every body smoked"
I think turning the funeral parlor into the grocery store was a good move, it gave the street a more of a home town athmosphere didn't it.
I agree with you, Mr. McB...remember when Andy had to make the folks move along when they were listening to the guitar player right outside the funeral parlor/TV shop? The owner said they were disrupting his business, or some such.
The grocery store was just right. People were always going in and out; Aunt Bee could stop by after picking up a few items for supper, and Andy could get an apple if his "sugar blood" got low. Plus, Barney could keep an eye on the guy who did the sweeping. No littering in Mayberry!

Permalink Reply by David Barker on June 5, 2012 at 4:27pm I sure do remember the first barber...blind as a bat and white hair...Couldn't get Barney's side burns even! LOL I agree, the grocery store was much more a part of the town at that location...
