iMayberry Community

So, where were the schools? The grade school must have been very nearby since people were always strolling to or from there, often Helen. And Helen became a high school teacher in the colored episodes. Where was that? I don't remember seeing any school buses, which would have had to cart kids around, especially the more rural ones. Thinking about this, I also don't remember seeing teenagers, except in the high school play episode. Were there any Mayberry teenagers? Has this been discussed before?

We know this: The courthouse was on a line connecting Andy's house and the school. In Opie Loves Helen, Barney noted how Opie and Helen were walking hand in hand.

Clues, we need more clues!

Where did all the Mayberry kids attend Church?  Opie was he only kid I can recall ever seeing in Church.

As for school buses,  there was one.  The Mayberry band loaded on it to attend the state band gathering.

Opie traded horse hairs for pennies run over by a train with ??Johnny Paul?? after church in "Man In a Hurry"!

I think all the other kids went with Johnnie Paul to the later service. Opie almost spoiled the message for Johnnie Paul in the Family Visit episode.

I'm sure there were some teens in Opie's rock 'n' roll band. They were pretty groovy too. And then Opie went to the teenage dance with Mary Alice, who really had her eye on Fred the comb obsessive. Then she found out ole Freddy wasn't much of a catch.

Maybe the other kids went to a special service for their age group in the room where somebody wanted to place a pool table when the church inherited money.  This could have been during the regular service upstairs (I'm assuming the proposed poolroom would have been in the basement).  Opie was kinda precocious and used to hanging out with the adults.  Maybe that's why he appeared to be the only kid there.

OR I like Mayor Pike's suggestion:)

Not wishing to “Hijack” the thread, but along these same lines.  Where are the relatives of the citizens of Mayberry.  We know from two eps, that I can recall, that Barney and Andy are cousins.  We know Aunt Bee is Andy’s aunt.  Barney “frisks” his mother in the “Manhunt” ep.  What happen to all other relatives?  Opie should have two sets of grandparents, never mentioned.  In the small community, I grew up in, and I bet the same is true for you, half the population was some degree of relative.  There were always huge Sunday dinner gatherings at Grandma’s.

Excellent point about the grandparents, Shorty.  The only time I remember anybody talking about one of them--and that was far in the past--was when Andy said his dad got Asa to show him his gun one time (when he was a young 'n).

Gomer and Goober are cousins, aren't they?  And Thelma Lou has lots of cousins!

I came across another Mayberry teenager. In Season 7, Howard plays Big Brother (sort of) to Tommy Parker. St. Louis Orioles anyone?

I always wondered where the fire department was and the water tower.

I don't know where it is (Fire Dept.), but they have a nice boiled dinner there from time to time.
