Just watched this one again last night.  Howard's mother was something else wasn't she, I just laughed out loud when she was sitting on the couch when Howard came home from the meeting and she all of a sudden tryed to pretend she was sleeping.  What a controlling person she is!

I have a mother in law like her.....she is 82 years old and works outside in the garden with her flowers in the hot sun, and just before my wife comes home every day she makes sure she is in the bed before my wife drives up.   Somehow she forgets that her sun tan gives her away along with the complaints about being stiff and sore.  LOL!

Actress Mabel Albertson seemed born to play that type of controlling mother character. She also enjoyed a long run on the "Bewitched" series playing Samantha's domineering mother-in-law.

HistoryBuff, I thought she looked familiar. You know looking back a this era of television it makes you realize that the working actors and actresses in Hollywood were not that big of a crowd as they were constantly contracting with all of the shows and productions during the time.

Looking back to the mid to late 50's til about 1970, these talented people can now be recognized better that we know them better now. During the day, I don't think we even noticed most of the time unless they were billed as the "special guest star"

Even when Jim Neighbors got his on varitey show, I remember he had Andy and Don Knotts on his show at least once.....and in Andy's last series you could spot Don Knotts occasionally. These guys seemed to look out for one another!

??? Whatever happened to Howard's father?

He went to Charlottesville with Tom Silby.

Interestingly, on RFD we find out that Howard was not an only child, as TAGS implied.  In the 3rd season episode "Howard's Nephew," sister Marge sends her teenaged son to Mayberry for a visit.

I don't know if I remeber Howards's father ever being mention, if is was I missed it?

Well, Howard's mother claimed he had a gambling problem, didn't she?  But she just said that to get Goober to black ball him from the Lodge.

Knowing Howard's mother as we do, I'm guessing the poor man either cut a trail early on in the marriage or just laid down and died to get out of it!  Who could blame him?

Apparently he wasn't around during Howard's boyhood.  Poor Howard didn't excel at many of the manly arts--like fishing.  But a good attitude and pure blind luck usually worked for him, didn't it?

Now that's just plain funny!

Dang, all of y'all are hurtin' my feelings. Mother isn't all that bad. She has a good heart and just wants the best for me. Now dad, he had a bad heart and it just gave out one day. We played catch a lot but I never did get the hang of throwing or catching.

Awww.... Howard.  I know Mother meant well.  Too bad she didn't get to meet others thru Mrs Wiley's social events. Mr Schwump would have taken a shine to her.

Gee, Howard.  A game of catch without the ability to throw or catch is just a game of ____________.  Maybe somebody can come up with a good name for that game.  I'm stumped.

Galvanized or plastic?  Choices, choices!

Better go with the galavnized one, Thels'. A name for a game of catch with no throwing or catching....  yep...requires the thinking power of a galvanized bucket.

Best name I could come up with was "Sulk". A kid with a mitt and ball, but who can't catch or throw... all he could do is sulk. Not very good, I know... but I can't find my bucket so I had to use a salad collander instead.

Some thinkin' is so deep it requires an old copper washtub. i think miss ellie has another one over at the drug store.

Nice Dress Nellie

I'm not sure this is anything new, but I think I just saw Nice Dress Nellie near the end of the 1969 Bewitched episode "Samantha Twitches for UNICEF."  Here are a couple of pictures, where I think she may be way in back on the left (looking kind of…See More
