Some folks in Mayberry seem like they don't do ANYTHING for a living.  They must have some source of income, though.  And there are some very interesting occupations in The Friendly Town.  Let's name the person and what they do for a living.  If we don't know for sure we could mention clues as to what the occupation might be:

I'll start with an easy one:

Thelma Lou "works at the office."

Frank Myers made berries for womens' hats. (If berries was to come back in again, he'd be sittin' pretty.)

Newton Monroe changed professions. Was a seller of goods out of his car, but thanks to Andy he discovered his gift for painting homes.

It's amazing the doors that open up when you discover you're "ept".

One of my absolute favorite episodes. God Bless Don Rickles.

Asa Breeney worked as a night watchman at Weavers Dept Store. Mister weaver said it was easy for thieves to walk away with things with 'Rip Van Winkle' there on duty.  Asa also worked as a security guard at the Bank.

Flora worked as a waitress at the diner, then she worked at Wally's Service Station and was quite popular, but she quit because Goober got upset. Before that she attended the Mayberry High Class Reunion, coming from Asheville. She caught Barney's eye. but apparently nothing came of that.

Andy tried his hand at operating a laundromat in his spare time, but things didn't work out. Opie will just have to study harder so he can get into college on a scholarship. Good luck with that one.

Blue had a presumptive and short lived job as a plain-clothes policeman. He also received extensive OJT (On the Job Training) as a pursuit specialist in the field of criminal justice which, unfortunately, was only successful if the person being chased used a dog whistle. He also failed in the area of photographic identification.  This chain of failures led to Blue falling into a state of depression where he became dependent on lollipops. Eventually Blue descended to the point where he couldn't even find his  own food dish.

The Morrison sisters ran a nice little business selling hot house flowers and did surprisingly well, particularly around holidays.

Mrs. Mendlebright ran a boarding house and made extra money growing mushrooms in the cellar for fun and profit.

Emma Brand made a career out of whining until people brought her stuff for free.

The little old ladies in Mayberry are really quite resourceful!

What could Barney Fife do after retiring from police work?

He could be an:

undercover private investigator,

door to door vacuum salesman,

brine tester at the pickle factory,

real estate agent,

professional singer (with Ms. Poltice's help),

but he's got his hands full up in Raleigh with N to R in the fingerprint section ("Nabb to Ryzinski")

Also, a freelance lawyer. He already knew how to write a "lawyer letter".

And let's not forget his psychological skills in ink blot test'n and hypnotiz'n.

He could be a proffessional bud-nipper as maybe the discipinary guy at the school.
Or a scout master with his knowledge of pioneer survival. Or he could be a mister fixit helping Emmet out down at the shop.
