Let's think of various scenarios that didn't happen but could've.  Like if Barney hadn't dated Thelma Lou, who would have been his "nice girl"?  If Gomer hadn't worked at Wally's, where would he have worked.  If Aunt Bee hadn't been a good cook, what would she have put on the table?  Anything is possible.  WHAT IF:

Ernest T. Bass had graduated from Harvard and come back to Mayberry for a visit.  Wonder how Miss-es Wi-lee would have received him then?  For that matter, would he and Barney have been friends?

What if:

1. A stranger came to town,

b. He wanted to marry Mrs. Mendlebright,

3. They left town and lived happily ever after,

leaving the rooming house to Barney, who was her best friend and known to be a tidy person?

Then Barney would have been able to marry Thelma Lou and together they could have turned it into a charming B&B where many  interesting, (and funny) characters could stay. That traveling salesman with the sore feet could be their first regular boarder. Mr. Weaver could pretend something was wrong with his house, so he could live there, too.

All the seemingly lonely and homeless Mayberry folk could have a good place to live.

Cashew fudge served every Thursday night in the lounge.

I LOVE your scenario, Mrs. Mendlebright.  "And they all lived happily ever after...."

What if Aunt Bee ended up marrying Henry Wheeler? That could add to the household expenses, especially all the extra lemonade.

Or worse yet, Roger Hanover and all his bad jokes?

Noooooo, not Roger Hanover, anyone but Roger.

Oh that was fun reading, Mayor Pike! Nothing like having all the boyfriends together for the purpose of comparisons. I almost chose the out of town pastor who liked Bee in her wig, but we know he had a roving eye.  After taking them all into account, I'm  glad Bee decided to stay single.

What if Howard stayed on the island? Would his "dream" come true?

Maybe Millie would decide to join him.

I'm sure she'd be there if she thought there might be a little casino in the area.
