Mayberry Replicas

Hello replica owners, and those that enjoy looking at them!

I've created an album of Mayberry Patrol Car Replicas that I think you'll enjoy looking through. (Note: Visit the album to see owner and other information about the cars.)

I'll be adding more photos to the album so if you have a replica upload a photo and I'll add it to the album so others can view it.  I've been tagging the car photos as "patrol car replicas" to make them easier to search for.

Here are a few stories related to the Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous which was held in Bradford, Ohio during the mid 1990's.

We now have the Mayberry Squad Car Nationals (since 2001) where owners of Mayberry replicas can show off their cars.

Anyone looking for the Mayberry door decal and/or the MT PILOT FORD trunk decal can get them from Signs and Designs, LTD in Mt Pleasant, Iowa.  Pricing was fair, turnaround reasonable and they have the specifications in their computer.

Pastor Guyton: The only episode I know of which showed the radio is Season 2, Episode 2, Barneys Replacement.  In that image (below) the radio is a Motorola TU-124.   I've found the iMayberry website dedicated to the Patrol Car to have numerous errors and this is one of them.  Many people have suggested that the radio would be a Motorola Twin V because of the time period but most police departments upgraded cars and simply transplanted their old radios which is why the TU-124 both makes sense and is shown in the series.   As a general conversation starter, these are the parts I've found to be correct:

SIREN: Federal Signal mechanical Model 28 or the chrome version Model 66-G

LIGHT: Mars RB which is a two light rotating beacon with a square top and high base.

RADIO: Motorola TU-124

I have a 1963 Galaxie that I have been restoring for a few years now. I am just curious what everyone is using for the cb radio? I also wonder if anyone uses a sound system to play music on for parades, if so what brand? Thanks!

My squad car was selected as Old Car Weekly's "Car of the Week".  The following article will come out officially on Sunday.

Here's an interesting article on how some folks did it with bicycles.  The Peavey molded plastic PA enclosures are usually really good.  Peavey is known for consistent high quality in musical instruments.  I sell them and recommend them highly.  The sound quality from these speakers would give the highest fidelity for recorded music.  You might mount them in open air (on roof/top of trunk, bumper-level basket, small trailer) or in the trunk (although the sound would be muffled).  The article has a step by step instruction, etc.  It's perhaps just an idea.  Just don't break any Mayberry sound ordinances.  ;-)

Hi Ken,

Depending upon the size/scale of the PA system desired, you could go several ways.  A few of the ones I've installed for my customers have had the discreet components, in a type of customized installation.  While some folks install what amounts to nothing more than a big car stereo speaker system, others have custom-made cabinets (made by the boys down at the lab), usually hidden somewhere in the body, with components used in on-stage PA systems.  The tweeters usually have to be unobstructed.  Depending upon the fidelity desired, you could just use horns mounted on the top, or multi-way enclosures, with fancy-dancy crossovers.  Will you be using this for a microphone and pre-recorded music?  Will Leon be running the sound board again this year?  Best wishes in your endeavor!  Over and Under, Clyde "Barn".
