Aunt Bee's British Replacement And the Need to Be Needed

One of my favorite episodes is the one in which Aunt Bee gets sick as the British butler replaces her. When he realizes that Aunt Bee doesn't really want to be a lady of leisure, he pretends to get…Continue

This episode is funny because officials in Mayberry legitimately panic when they hear Otis Campbell is the descendant of the distinguished person. They fear he will shame Mayberry by showing up…Continue

Mr. McBeevee: fantasy and reality, metaphorical and plain truth

This show was very good in pointing out how children can become confused between reality and make-believe -- but so can adults.  Opie's description of Mr. McBeevee sounds fantastic yet it turns out to be truthful.  Of course, Mr. McBeevee sometimes talks in metaphors. When Opie repeats the metaphor about the "12 hands," the grown-ups assume it's a child's fantasy.  I like this episode for how it underlines the differences and confusions between reality and fantasy.  It also shows how close Andy…See More

Hey, Denise!
(That's my sister's name, too)
I read some of your stuff (crude, huh?) on antimisandry and crime library. Very engaging and thought-provoking. Some of the comments from readers are pretty interesting, too.
