Slade lail, My understanding of the difference in the Ford Fairlane and the Galaxie in 59 is based on the trim package and engine size if is a 6 cyl or a V8. The squad cars where Galaxie's but not a Fairlane Galaxie 500. In 1962 Ford stopped making the Fairlane and downed sized the body and only made the Galaxie. The Galaxie had a V8 but hardly any trim. A lot of people that have squad cars uses a 500. Talked to some people and have been told that there was Ford Galaxie Custom which was a stripped down model with no trim at all. But did have a V8 engine. There is a web site stating that all squad car was painted flat black and white due to studio lights and camera glare reflection. Everyone makes their squad car different to their own taste. But the best part is when you are out in it and everyone wants to look at it and talk about the Andy Griffith Show.
