I have enjoyed TV Land's recent scheduling of the black & white TAGS episodes. Yesterday, I was struck with the realization that many young actors' TAGS appearances catapulted them on to bigger and better things. In fact, it seems that CBS used TAGS to get some exposure for actors on upcoming CBS shows. Here's a partial list I have come up with:
Buddy Ebsen (11-13-61) "Opie's Hobo Friend" --Beverly Hillbillies
Edgar Buchanan (12-4-61) "Aunt Bee's Brief Encounter"--Petticoat Junction
Alan Hale, Jr (1-1-62) "The Farmer Takes a Wife"--Gilligan's Island
Bill Bixby (1-15-62) "Bailey's Bad Boy"--My Favorite Martian
Barbara Eden (1-22-62) "The Manicurist"--I Dream of Jeannie
Bob Denver (3-30-64) "Divorce, Mountain Style"--Gilligan's Island
Jamie Farr (2-21-66) "The Gypsies"--M*A*S*H
William Christopher (12-26-66) "A New Doctor in Town"--M*A*S*H
I'm sure I missed some. I think it shows the impact appearing on TAGS could have for an actor.
