To add to the list of Seasons 6-8 apostasies of Colorization and Barney-Fife-Extirpation we have the Boozification of Mayberry. Right away in Episode 2 of Season 6, we have "Andy's Rival" bringing a bottle of fancy french wine for the dinner that displaces Andy's punch supreme. So much for Aunt Bee "Not even allowing fruit cake in the house" and the general law against alcohol use. And it is pretty clear: wine and beer are A-OK in the last 3 seasons.
At least their (legal) alcohol use is moderate in nature. And Otis still checks in at the jail for the weekend in a few late season episodes, apparently for drunkeness, which is still illegal.
