In 'Aunt Bee the Swinger', Aunt Bee tells Andy that she and Congressman Canfield had dinner at "The Reef in Nags Head." The Reef was a well known restaurant on the Outer Banks of NC for many years and the reference was no doubt suggested by Griffith, who lived in the area and probably ate there often. I live about an hour from there (just across the line in SE VA) and remember hearing about it. In the 50s and 60s, it was THE place to go for seafood when visiting the Outer Banks. It went out of business in the late 70s when development of the Outer Banks exploded and trendier places sprang up.
