Ellie left Mayberry. But where did she go? There was no explanation to her sudden departure.
In this post I want to speculate some in regards to why Ellie left Mayberry and where she relocated to. Detective Barney Fife is now on the case. Okay, so I'm not Barney Fife, but it never hurts to hope :-)
So where did Ellie go and why did she leave Mayberry?
Speculation #1:
Ellie left Mayberry because she was too young and pretty and may have felt stifled. Like Barney, who was always after the big time, Ellie may have felt the little Mayberry drug store was boxing her in. So, on a fateful, bright, spring day a handsome doctor enters the drug store (this is after Ellie and Andy finally break up for good). This doctor tells Ellie that he knows of a pharmacy in Raleigh that needs a good pharmacist. The pay is great. The doctor falls for Ellie and Ellie likes him. He's in Mayberry to cover for the regluar doctor who went on vacation.
After the regular doctor returns Ellie decides to move to Raliegh and take the job. A few months later she marries the doctor and they stay married for life and have a beautiful family.
Speculation #2:
Ellie robbed the Mayberry bank and became a wanted outlaw.
Hey, it could have happened.
Speculation #3:
Aliens abducted her.
Hey, in Mayberry anything can happen!
Speculation #4:
Aunt Bee tried to blackmail Ellie in order to recieve free perfume samples.
Hey, it could have happened.
Speculation #5:
Ellie won the lottery and moved to Hawaii.
You never know.
Okay, so there are my top 5 speculations. After a careful and close review I vote for speculation #2...I mean #1.

Emma Watson put in a complaint with the Food and Drug Administration that Miss Ellie Walker was selling sugar pills as bonafide cures for bursitis and rhematis. This caused a handsome young medical malpractice inspector to come to Mayberry and check Ellie out. Which he did, leading to a drop of the complaint and a quick marriage for Ellie.
Emma Watson remained dissatisfied, but Emma felt justified many years later, when her granddaughter started an online alternative health podcast featuring many herbal remedies that, "Doctors Don't Want You To Know."
