In the Episode "Andy and Barney in the Big City" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0512403/), they both leave Mayberry.
Where did the law go? Who took over for Andy and Barney? We're not told.
Why was Mayberry left without a temporary badge to make sure Ben's store was locked up at night and the back door leading into the bank vault was secure?
Curious...curious...curious.
Maybe Earnest T. Bass took over for them with his bag of bricks?
Andy and Barney took a bus to Raleigh, which means they didn't take the squad car. Did Goober look after the squad car? Maybe they left the squad car parked right in front of the courthouse to make it look like they were there? Who would notice except for Ben himself, the old grouch.
Well, what matters is that Barney and Andy faired well and Mayberry continued safe and sound in future episodes. I guess Earnest T. Bass did a good job for them :-)
And hey, Andy and Barney got a brown bag full of sandwiches. You can't beat that with a stick!
