Hope Summers Death Date and Burial Place Mystery

Supposedly Hope Summers is buried in Walla Walla, Washington, but the Findagrave page lists this as being disputed.  Also the dates on the stone do not match her Internet Movie Database dates.  Can someone either correct the IMdB entry or confirm whether the Findagrave is wrong?  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6859375/hope-summers  If this is correct I'd like to visit but won't if not.  Thanks.

  • It’s not all that unusual for grave markers to have a wrong date on them.  According to IMDB she was in a few shows released in 1978, so 1979 would seem a more likely death year as opposed to 1977.

This California death record has a 1979 death year with the cemetery listed as Chapel of the Pines.

The Walla Walla government burial records shows Chapel of the Pines being the funeral home and Mountain View being the cemetery (which is where Find A Grave has her.)

Not sure why her Mountain View burial would be disputed, but it’s also not unusual for people to have markers in a cemetery but not be buried there (considered a cenotaph).  Maybe family has a marker for a person in the family plot but the person or other family has them buried elsewhere when they die, or they are cremated and the ashes are not buried there.

Just some possible scenarios as I don’t know for sure.  I may see if I can find out why Find A Grave has her burial location as being disputed.

    • Thanks for answering.

      • I did find her death certificate which says she was cremated.  The cemetery records at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla references the crematorium and has a burial date at Mountain View of July 26, 1979.  Find a Grave has removed the disputed label based on this information.

So her cremains are interred in the family plot in Walla Walla while she's making pickles in heaven.  Hope you're able to make the visit.

        • Wow, thanks for correcting the record!  What date did the death certificate give?

          • Her death certificate said she died on July 22, 1979 of heart disease at the Motion Pictures & TV Hospital in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles County, CA.

            • Thanks, I am impressed by your research.
