The color episodes

I've never liked them much.  I bought the DVD box set for the first 5 seasons but wasn't interested in the last 3.Don Knotts and Jim Nabors was gone, the new characters like Warren, Emmet and Howard just weren't funny to me, poor Floyd had had the stroke, and Andy seem irritated by everyone.  There wasn't the fun picking on Barney, and the true friendship between those two with any other characters.  This is nothing new to many TAGS fans.Today, TV Land got to the end of season 5 and started…

My husband and I both think that Andy should have ended up with Peggy. She was so pretty and vibrant, with so much spark and personality. Besides, she could sing and harmonize with Andy, and was a great cook, to boot! She could definitely make more than TV dinners, and I betcha she could even make some leg o' lamb- Andy's favorite dish!Of course, we never do hear what finally broke up their romance. I was thinking of her four episodes, though, and each time, Andy made some kind of relationship…

Here’s a thought....

Last night I mentioned that maybe Mr. Schwamp’s identity is buried deep in the CBS archives.  Well, I did a little bit of snooping and discovered that, in 2011 and 2012, Production Supervisor Ronald Jacobs donated all of his “papers” from his television career to the UCLA special collections library.  The bulk of this collection is listed as script files, and includes his time with TAGS.  According to IMDb, he was production supervisor for all of the 26 TAGS episodes listed for Mr. S. on the…

Quotes you say ALOT!

In no particular order, name the top 1-2 quotes from the show that you “ACTUALLY” SAY TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS, a lot!   Please only list 1-2 to give others a chance to add theirs!!! I’ll start: Your education was worth every penny. Eatin’ speaks louder that words!

Another mystery woman?

Stop me if this has come up before, but I’m wondering if anyone can recall seeing this woman in other episodes.  In the first picture, she takes a prominent spot in “Barney’s Replacement”.  I’m not positive if that’s her in the second picture, walking in the background in “Barney on the Rebound”, but it sure looks like her.  She has a large purse in both appearances.  I’m pretty sure I’ve noticed her in at least one other episode, but I’m not sure which one(s).

Such a hilarious scene in the epilogue of the first episode of 'Mayberry RFD' titled, 'The Wedding.' Tight shot of Andy serenading Helen on their honeymoon when the camera slowly pulls back revealing Barney! I think Helen has her back up.

I found this podcast with Stark Howell, Cort Howell and Greg Schell being interviewed about Mayberry Man. It's a good podcast so you may want to listen to all of it. I clipped out a section where they were talking specifically about me as Floyd, Rik Roberts as Barney and with mentions of other tribute artist in the Mayberry Man movie.   I hope you enjoy it and the movie when it releases. -- Allan

Very nice words about Allan Newsome (Floyd), Rik Roberts (Barney) in the Mayberry Man movie. A clip of The Andy Griffith Show/Mayberry Man in Thats C…
  • Welcome to Mayberry to all our newest townsfolks!

We're glad to have you here with us. I hope you enjoy yourself here in town. -- Allan

  • Otis, Helen and Thelma Lou were almost in a scene together in “Return of the Fun Girls.”  Helen and Thelma Lou showed up at the courthouse minutes after Barney had thrown the ‘chubby drunk’ out.

  • Hmm...I don't think they ever were in a scene together.  I'll really have to think on this one but I believe you're right.

  • And speaking of Otis, I don't recall ever seeing Otis, Helen, and Thelma Lou ever in a scene together. Curious.

  • Sure has been quite here at the Barber Shop. :)

  • Thanks Don.  I hope everyone enjoys it.  The number of visits/posts here has been very low since the "upgrade" so I guess I'll have to wait and see if folks like it or not.  I'm glad you like it!

  • Nice work on the upgrade, Allan. Thanks for all you do!

  • James - Don't worry if you bring up something that's been talked about before. Everybody here watches reruns every day some we can handle talking about things again. Your perspective may very well add an insight that no one else has ever given. I certainly do look forward to seeing Australian articles and thoughts about Mayberry!

  • The renovated site looks fine at my end, maybe it'll take a bit of getting used to. Unfortunately I'm not as big a contributor to the forum as I'd like to be because having only joined last year (a forum that's been running for many years) it's hard to come up with something new and/or original that hasn't been said and done many times already by others. I have 'contributed' a few screen grabs of TAGS people in other productions and have plenty more of them in my DVD collection, I've only scratched the surface really, so I may do a few more of those, even 'shock-horror' a few Jack Burns ones. Plus a couple of contemporary Australian newspaper articles about TAGS from 1961 when it premiered here, I may upload them as well.

"It would be fun to find out...but if not, the mystery is kind of fun, too. I think I spotted him as one of the extras in the dance scene of the movie, Christmas in Connecticut! He seemed exactly the same- typical Mr. Shwamp! :) (I'm a trained…"

"Why would you want to catch ole Sam and take him out of the lake?  here's another fun fact.  Of all the times he was called out. he was always called Mr Schwamp.  Think of how many other characters were called different names.  "
